Static Caravan Insurance FAQs
It is virtually impossible to provide a guide on premium costs as each policy is specific to each caravan, factors influencning the cost of annual caravan cover include:
- Caravans market value.
- Caravan make, model and age.
- The location the park it is sited on, can influence insurance especially if the site has suffered from any historic flood issues.
- The value of contents and removable items kept in the caravan.
It is advisable to get 2-3 quotes to compare different static caravan insurance policies. Remember to use the same details for each quote (caravan value, age, optional excess etc).
New for old cover, will replace your caravan with a brand new, same or equivalent model if your caravan is damaged beyond repair. In order to do this you should make sure the value of insurance cover you take out accurately reflects the cost of removing your old caravan and replacing it with a brand new caravan on your holiday park.
Most caravan insurers offer new for old cover for a limited period, the best policies offer new for old on caravans up to 10 – 15 years old, after this you are normally only able to insure for market value based on your caravan model, its condition and age.
Most static caravan insurance policies allow you to select an amount to cover contents including televisions, appliances, furnishings and other removable valuables. For most caravans a few thousand pounds should be sufficient, however it largely depends on what you leave in the caravan and the value of appliances and internal items as these can vary widely.
Most static caravan insurance policies do not provide cover for commercial rental (i.e. renting to paying guests).
Some static caravan insurers are able to offer this in an addition to standard cover as a policy extension or add-on.
Ripe caravan insurance provides public liability, with cover for letting your caravan to guests.
You should always check with your chosen insurer that you are adequately covered if you rent or plan to rent out your caravan. You must also ensure you and your guests do not compromise letting cover e.g. maximum occupancy rates up to 4 people in a 4 berth caravan / up to to 6 people in a 6 berth caravan.
Most caravan holiday parks require each private caravan owner to provide a copy of their insurance schedule or caravan insurance summary on an annual basis.
If you own a static caravan on a holiday park you should be allowed to take out insurance cover with an insurer of choice. Whilst some holiday parks have block schemes that they might prefer you insure through, you should never feel forced to insure through a block scheme if it is not for you. As long as you provide a copy of your insurance schedule to your park office this is sufficient under most holiday park rules.
Most static caravan insurance policies will allow you to make amendments from time to time, this could be to increase or decrease contents value, or to update the market value based on a sudden increase or decrease in value during your cover period.
Or, maybe you have decided to rent your caravan to paying guests and you need to add rental cover.
Some caravan insurance providers will allow you to self manage amendments by login into your account if you have one set up. Alternatively you can call or email your insurer and they should be able to make amendments for you. Remember making changes to your caravan insurance policy may incur additional charges, especially if the value of cover needs to be increased.
Your caravan insurance provider should have a dedicated claims team contact number, this is usually printed on your insurance schedule or in our insurance documents.
It is important to call and log claims as soon as possible. You insurer may require you to provide a written statement and photographs to back up a claim.
Many insurance companies will send out someone to assess damage, especially for high value insurance claims, before they will agree to repairs or other action.
